So the first question that needs to be asked is What is a Teddy Bear Puppy .. or a Shichon puppy?
They are a mix of a Shih tzu and a Bichon together. These cute puppies are acutally called many names. Shichons, Zuchons , but the most popular is called the TEDDY BEAR PUPPY
These Shichon Teddy Bear puppies have really began to get quite a bit of attention over the last few years So much so that we decided to add them to our breeding program at www.pricelesspups.net .
What we found was a bit surpising to say the least and that as cute as they were, they seemed to be quite a rowdy bunch. Not just regular puppy stuff.
Shichon and Teddy Bear puppies are very very needy and very vocal. Some may even call the Shichon a Yappy breed.
I would have to agree. They tend to really vocalize everything. So for us we just felt that was not a good fir for our family and for many of the puppy parents we service. Most of our families do not want barky and or yappy dogs, which the Shichons clearly in our experience we found Teddy Bear puppies to be just that.
The next thing that was shocking to us is the size that they can get up to. They are not always the perfect little lap dog that many families are hope to get. In fact what many Shichon breeders will not tell you is that these cute little fur balls can get up into access of 20 plus pounds. For the families we service that is just to darn big.
What most people do not realize is that because of the genetics behind the Shih Tzu and the Bichon breed when you cross the two together you have a good chance of getting Teddy Bear puppies that far exceed the weight and size of the families that adopt them.
These two reasons were enough for us and we decided to remove the Shichon and Teddy Bear puppies breeding's from our breeding program and focus solely on the Shorkie
Shorkies are a combination of the Shih Tzu and the Yorkie and we have been breeding them for 23 yrs now and along with being the founder of the Shorkie breed I am also the founder of the Shorkie Club Of America.
Specializing in the Shorkie breed for this many years has allowed be to find out the Pros and Cons of this breed and work on perfecting any health issues that we have noted in the breed over the years.
Unlike the Shichon we knew nothing about .. we definitely know Shorkies.
We took the time to write a book on Shorkies call the Official Shorkie guide. you can view it at www.shorkieinformation.com Our puppy parents get a copy of the book for free. So what we want people to do is research the breed you are considering to the fullest. Dont jsut fall inlove with the first little Shichon or teddy bear puppy you see or any puppy for that matter. There is so much research that needs to be done so you know you are ending up with the perfect puppy for you and your family.
